Making a Positive Impact

Quakers have a long history of spiritual and political activism. Early work to reform prisons, abolish slavery, and end warfare was led by belief in the testimonies of Peace and Equality.

Their faith leads many members of EFM to pursue social justice. Many members of the meeting participate in peace marches, vigils, and are active in peace organizations. The Meeting belongs to and actively participates in interfaith Action of Evanston. We are active in supporting the environment and combating climate change. Recent events have led us to participate in Illinois Yearly Meeting’s minute to examine our privilege and learn to be antiracist. A committee of the Meeting (Peace, Justice, and Earthcare) brings many activities and questions to the Meeting.

Our Meetinghouse and Indigenous Land

Our Meetinghouse stands on land taken from Indigenous People such as the Peoria, Potawatomi, and the Miami communities.
